Packing Survival Guide

In anticipation for next weekend's Tinkerbell Half Marathon I have pulled out my suitcase and started tossing in all of my running essentials. Now that the suitcase is out and my favorite running items are being packed, I lay in bed at night going through my mental list of things that I need to bring. If your brain is as reliable as mine is here is the official RunDisney packing list that might save you from going through the midnight mental list.

Thursday's Uphill Battle...

Thursday's run might not have been a huge confidence upper, but at least I know that I will be able to complete next weekend's Tinkerbell Half Marathon. I have been having major GI issues while running so I have to admit that I am nervous about next weekends race. GI issues honestly messes with your self-confidence and has caused me hit the emotional and mental wall hard. I understand that with time and better control of my GI issues I will be able to knock down and break through this new wall. Yes I had to stop twice during a 5 mile run to go to the bathroom, but I was able to keep on going I did not give in to my stomach or allow it to dictate how many miles I should run. Besides being lucky to find not only one bathroom, but two bathrooms was amazing, but the success of Thursday night's run was that I completed my goal. Perhaps in life it is not about where you are going, but the journey along the way that counts. Wherever you go there you are.

RUN/WALK Calculator

As my next half marathon, The Tinkerbell Half Marathon is quickly approaching I like to analyze my current time based on my goal time and what I need to do to accomplish such a goal. I have tried numerous apps, spreadsheets, and various websites. As this link has been shared many other sites, I too am happy to pass along the wisdom! Click on the image to access the best run/walk calculator on the web. This calculator allows you to determine various run/walk ratios to allow you to finish in a certain time.

Day Dreaming: Six Years Ago Today...

I never thought that I would not only be a runner, but a half marathon junkie.  Six years ago today I ran my first race, the PF Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Phoenix Half Marathon. I kind of feel like the girl in Sweet Charity minus the whole prostitute thing and I should be singing “If My Friends Could See Me Now.” I think that the jaws of my high school PE teachers would hit the floor if they knew that I was an avid runner. Considering I was the girl who would walk on the treadmill backwards in 5 inch heels! Here is a look back at the road to 13 Going on Crazy!

Must Do on Thursday...

I shook the Magic 8 Ball & guess what it's telling me that I must go for a run tomorrow...the distance does not matter as long as I strap on those running shoes and hit the pavement! Now I must decide if I should run towards the ocean.

New Year...New Run

A nice little run yesterday I am more than ready to get back in the swing of things. It may have been only a mile, but a mile is a mile in my book!

I'm ready to be back in my routine...it's been a while.

Over and Out

I better sign out of Words with Friends as I'm flying American Airlines...We all saw what happened to our friend Alec Baldwin!! Considering I can't go on SNL dressed as America Airlines Captain Rogers and apologize to myself should I get removed if I don't shut down Words with Friends. Next time I see him at Nate'N'Al's or Westside Pavilion I am going to have to tell him he is my hero! Go Alec!

Light a Candle...For my Spottie

Today is a sad day. It is so hard to believe that a year has passed since my beautiful Dalmatian, Spottie left this world. I might be all taped and glued back together, but will the giant hole that has taken up residence in my heart since January 2nd, 2011, ever dissipate? Perhaps it will, perhaps it won't, I know though that everyday that I had with Spottie was a gift that I was able to give her. She was more than a great dog. Not a day goes by that my heart does not go her. I will always miss Spottie and the joy that she gave to not only me, but the world. A few of my favorite Spottie memories are:
  • Spottie loved people and knew that people loved her in return. More times than I could count people would stop me and request to take pictures with her. She would proudly pose like a Hollywood star.
  • For the 2010 holiday I bought her antlers and thought that it would be a one time only wear. She would pull it out of her toy box, flip it in the air as though to say, 'I can't go anywhere with my special hat.'
  • She was trained to never go on concrete, but to find that small patch or grass or tree wherever that might be. During my holiday with Spottie at Century City Mall, she squatted under the giant Christmas tree and then proudly smiled as though to say, 'Didn't I do a good job!'
  • She was always ready to go for a bike ride or run. A run she did like the wind.
  • She wouldn't leave my side when I was home. It seemed as though she would simply look at me and I would know exactly what she needed. I miss that stare.

Stories could go on and on and although her journey in life was short, her presence touched the hearts of countless souls.

Happy New Year TuTu You!

Look what I got for my birthday! Hope your New Year is starting out as great as mine!!

Happy New Year & Happy Birthday!!

Happy New Year and Happy Birthday to ME!! I am all taped and glued back together and it is so hard to believe that a year has gone by so quickly. I am a year older, perhaps wiser, definitely stronger, maybe a little less glass half empty kind of girl, maybe not on the last one, but I am another year closer to being included in the Willard Scott's Smucker's Birthdays on The Today Show. I am more than happy and ready to close the door not only on 2011, but on being 28! This year has been filled with tears and heartache, false promises and disappointments, but 2011 also proved that I will prevail. I will try to remember the year 2011  as a reflection of my resilience, strength, and determination. One of my proudest moments of 2011 is setting in motion a goal that continues into 2012, which is promoting mental and physical health, running 13 half marathons in 13 months. This time next year, I don't want to have any regrets or heartache for that matter, but life is all about the little bumps and bruises along the way. I am embarking on a new outlook towards life or at least I will try to tip my glass in the other direction. As many of you may or may not know my middle name is Joy and I've  decided that 2012 is the "Year of Joy" and I hope that you will adopt this as your theme too. Whatever happens professionally, financially or personally it will not rob us of the joy that is this life. Go forth and be joyful!
